why is Sammy on an all starch diet?
It would be pointless to remind you that kids usually interpret the things that we say LITERALLY.

When there's mashed potatoes, there is NOTHING else allowed on the plate. Didn't you know that?
Actually, Sammy is on the "reverse atkins" program. It seems to be working well.
